Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs on BRICS if they Adopt their Own Currency

Written by Daniel Mercado | Edited by Sasha

President-Elect Donald Trump threatened to impose an 100% tariff on BRICS and BRICS aligned nations if they choose to adopt their own currency or attempt to undermine the US Dollar.

In Trump’s Truth Social Post he wrote,

We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy,

BRICS is deigned to avoid reliance on Western systems of currency exchange like SWIFT that allow for unilateral Western sanctions. It's aim is to build alternatives to US controlled bodies like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank which are abused to coerce developing nations into adopting neoliberal policies and privatizing industry.

OP-ED: Impeachment Was a Move to Consolidate Power Ahead of Senate Elections

I will not otherwise continue to serve under an administration that governs through intimidation, manipulation, and bad-faith tactics. I will also be stepping away from Student Senate for the foreseeable future, as the conduct displayed by prospective candidates and current leadership has contributed to an atmosphere of dysfunction that I refuse to legitimize through continued participation.
