Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, and President Trump have both quickly denied the meeting that took place March 21st. Secretary Hegseth tweeted, “…this is NOT a meeting about “top secret China war plans.” It’s an informal meeting about innovation, efficiencies & smarter production. Gonna be great!”. While President Trump posted on Truthsocial, “And Elon is NOT BEING BRIEFED ON ANYTHING CHINA BY THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR!!!”. The usage of the term “Department of War”, a name that has not been used since 1947, is very telling. This was coupled with the use of all caps while denying the existence of the meeting that was well documented by Pete Hegseth and the Department of Defense.
