Settler Violence In Ramallah

Written by Daniel Mercado | Edited by Claire Blair

According to a Reuters article published November 4th, “Around a dozen attackers, masked and carrying petrol bombs, targeted the Al-Bireh area, which adjoins Ramallah, at around 3 am (01:00 GMT), torching the cars in a matter of minutes.” [1] The Israeli colonial settlers torched and destroyed 20 cars and opened fire on any Palestinians who tried to put out the car fires. [2] The Israeli internal intelligence agency (Shin Bet) and Israeli Police have agreed to open an investigation into the violent attack; however, it bears mentioning that most of their investigations end with no consequences or formal acknowledgement of the law being broken.

Unfortunately, this attack is nothing new. 2023 and 2024 were incredibly violent years in terms of settler violence. According to a report conducted by Al Jazeera, “Over the past year, at least 1,423 incidents of settler violence in the occupied West Bank were recorded – an average of four a day, according to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.” [3]
